What place for English-speaking whites in Afrikaners’ self-determination?

I am sure that the large majority of whites, Afrikaans or English-speaking, would agree that South Africa under ANC rule has become a nightmarish, third-world hell-hole, replete with uneducated tin-pot megalomaniacs screaming down the roads in blue-light convoys, often mowing down innocent pedestrians, corruption, anarchy, decaying infrastructure, rubbish in the streets, heretofore unknown levels of violent crime, as well as the quasi-religion of state racism, known as transformation (a.k.a. ethnic cleansing) aimed against whites in the form of affirmative action and BEE. This black-on-white racism has reached such endemic proportions that Eskom, the state electricity supplier, is importing black Americans to fill posts at Eskom to sit and twiddle their thumbs, rather than deigning to appoint a white South African citizen.

The mistake many whites made with the coming of South Africa’s so-called democracy in 1994, was to delude ourselves into believing that we were somehow different to all other African hell-holes. We were sadly mistaken, however. The ANC regime is not different at all. It rather has everything in common with Zimbabwe’s Zanu-PF. The deterioration of a formerly orderly and prosperous country loudly attests to this.

Given the above African reality, self-determination or emigration is the only way of whites to avoid either a Zimabwe situation, or even a Rwanda-type genocide. More than a million whites have left, but what about those who cannot emigrate? Self-determination can also include an independent country, but doesn’t have to do so. The Basques and Catalans in Spain are an example of peoples with a large degree of self-determination, but without an independent country. Section 235 of South Africa’s constitution does make provision for self-determination by ethnic groups. Up to now, the quest for self-determination amongst whites has been almost exclusively driven by Afrikaners. Praag, the Pro-Afrikaans Action Group, is one of the Afrikaner-organizations working towards self-determination.

Although Praag is by definition an Afrikaans organization, it is also a fact that there are significant numbers of English speakers that support us, or perhaps are united in their opposition to the racist and criminal ANC regime. This piece was prompted by one of the regular contributors to the comments section of the Praag site, who asked questions like:

Who are the Afrikaners?

What is the role of English-speaking whites in any effort towards self-determination? (I’m going to abbreviate English-speaking whites as ESWs in the rest of this piece.)

The first question is the easier one to answer, although it is admittedly not quite that easy in all cases. I will use Wikipedia’s definition:

Afrikaners or Boers are an Afrikaans speaking ethnic group in Southern Africa. They are mainly of northwestern European descent (mostly Dutch, German and French ancestry), but their native tongue is Afrikaans, a language closely related to Dutch.

Note that there is a clear mention of ethnicity in the above definition (once again: it isn’t my own definition.) Ethnicity is PC-speak for “white.” In other words: Afrikaners are white, Afrikaans-speaking descendants of European settlers. Politically correct people and liberals may not like a national definition in terms of race, but it is a fact, just like it goes without saying that a true Irishman is a white inhabitant of an island country in the Atlantic Ocean. For those who wonder how to define a white person, I refer them to the ANC regime. Please ask the Afro-fascists of the ANC how they decide against whom to discriminate when it comes to affirmative action. You could even ask a four-year-old, before the adults teach him or her to start lying about the obvious.

Whilst we’re on the topic, I may as well grasp the nettle of the coloured question too. In certain circles, for example the liberal Afrikaans-speaking media, it is considered politically correct to group Afrikaans-speaking coloureds with Afrikaners and to pretend we somehow form one ethnic group. One particular media group, Naspers, with has gone as far as to even invent an absurd name for this combination: the so-called “Afrikaanses” (sic). This is the equivalent of pretending white Americans and Mexicans are one nation, and calling them: “Amerexicans” or something similar. However, the interesting thing is that this is very much an extremely tiny minority’s opinion, and only the most whisky-soaked Naspers journalist would even consider taking this seriously. Most coloured intellectuals would not see themselves as Afrikaners at all.

For example: the coloured academic (to any American readers: “coloured” in South Africa refers to mixed-race people, mostly of Malay, Khoisan and white ancestry), professor Jonathan Jansen, goes as far as to deny that there is even an Afrikaner nation at all, by which he bizarrely seems to suggest approximately 3 million Afrikaners all suffer from the same delusion, as opposed to Jansen’s own paranoid delusions. When the formerly Afrikaans-speaking and formerly coloured University of the Western Cape was “democratized” in 1994, they wasted no time in getting rid of Afrikaans. With few exceptions, Afrikaans music, culture, academia and commerce are driven by Afrikaners, not coloureds. Coloured intellectuals are almost united in their preference for English. Whilst I don’t pretend to speak for the coloured community, American-style gangsta culture and hip-hop music seems to hold a bigger appeal to many of them, than does the Afrikaner culture.

Things aren’t all that simple as saying Afrikaners speak Afrikaans, adhere to an Afrikaner culture and are white, however. Many Afrikaners have intermarried with English-speaking whites. A good example of this is the popular Afrikaner singer Steve Hofmeyr, who, in spite of being passionate about the language, nevertheless married an English wife and is raising his children in English. In addition, some Afrikaners have deliberately chosen to abandon Afrikaans and have voluntarily become English-speaking. A good example of this is the Afrikaner actress, Charlize Theron, who these days sports a pretty passable Californian twang.

Is Charlize still an Afrikaner?

The above logically leads to the second question: what, if any, role is there for ESWs if and when Afrikaners achieve self-determination?

I am not going to dwell on the Anglo-Boer War and the remaining bitterness still being felt in some circles towards the English-speakers. As far as I am concerned, both the Afrikaners and ESWs are currently in the same boat, and should be united against a common enemy, rather than dwelling on the past: the racist ANC regime and its criminal accomplices (if not the ANC’s criminal officials and office bearers.)

One reality in terms of most ESWs is that there is not such a clear sense of a national identity among ESWs. I’ve yet to hear an ESW describe himself as anything but a South African. However, most sane realists realize by now that there is in fact no such a thing as a South African nation, especially not if you’re white. To call yourself a South African is therefore pretty vague and to my mind an unsatisfactory description. The ANC regime constantly makes it abundantly clear that whites are, in Thabo Mbeki’s immortal words, “settlers who have yet to depart” or “colonialists of a special kind.” If there is a South African nation, as opposed to a geographical area, it is definitely uniformly black, with very little room for whites.

Perhaps because most ESWs lack a separate national identity, it will of necessity have to be Afrikaners who will lead our own struggle, similar to the ANC’s, to achieve self-determination. Except for a few ESWs who think an independent Western Cape is a good idea, I detect very little separatist thinking amongst ESWs. As for the question as to whether Afrikaners will welcome only Afrikaners into the fold, should we achieve self-determination: there’s no simple answer. I once again refer to the example of Steve Hofmeyr’s children. Are they Afrikaners? Do we do a language test and grant citizenship in an Afrikaner republic to Steve on the basis of that, but not his kids?

Another question is whether ESWs would like to associate themselves with Afrikaners, even if offered the opportunity.

It is a fact that ESWs have historically been of a much more liberal persuasion than most Afrikaners. Helen Suzman, with her almost exclusively ESW and Jewish constituency in Johannesburg’s leafy suburbs, was for years the sole liberal member of parliament. Would liberal, northern-suburbs ESWs want to have anything to do with the Afrikaners at all, or are they happy to rearrange the deck chairs on the South African Titanic and flee back to London when the chips are down?

On the other hand, it is a fact that ESWs are for reasons of ethnicity and intermarriage the closest relations Afrikaners have in Southern Africa. A lot of ESWs no longer have any British roots or relatives. Afrikaners have much more in common with ESWs than with Zulus (or Mongolians), for that matter. A large proportion of the ESWs are equally as disillusioned with the so-called Rainbow Nation as Afrikaners are. They also suffer the same racist discrimination at the hands of the ANC regime as Afrikaners do. Do Afrikaners abandon the ESWs if Rwanda’s genocide becomes South Africa’s reality too?

If I am really pressed to provide a straight answer as to whether I think Afrikaners should allow ESWs to participate in Afrikaners’ self-determination, and knowing full well many ESWs would have political, cultural and linguistic objections, I would have to say a qualified yes.

One thing that I think most Afrikaners striving for self-determination agree upon, is that our language and culture are completely non-negotiable. If there is an independent Afrikaner Authority, similar to the Palestinian Authority, or an independent Afrikaner state, Afrikaans will be its sole official language. Nobody wants to control what languages people speak behind closed doors, but all government functions and all state broadcasting will for example be in Afrikaans, finish & klaar. There is in this sense no difference between Afrikaners, the Germans and the French, who also wouldn’t dream of having other languages as their official language. This in and of itself may discourage many ESWs from joining the Afrikaners’ cause. Many of them may rather consider English-speaking countries such as Australia or the UK.

Does that leave ESWs as mere potential immigrants? I agree with Dr Dan Roodt, the leader of Praag, when he says that any independent Afrikaner Authority or Afrikaner state should apply the same immigration criteria as European countries. Afrikaners, as defined by the definition elsewhere in this document, should in my opinion automatically qualify for citizenship. Anybody else would be free to apply for citizenship, subject to an oath of loyalty and to other criteria like skills, lack of a criminal record, health, education, a waiting period and a language test. All of these are nothing sinister and are in fact exactly the kind of criteria countries like the UK and Germany would apply to prospective immigrants.

I would personally also say there is a case to be made for extending a once-off offer of asylum or refugee status to ESWs who suffer from racist persecution and crime at the hands of the ANC regime. Afrikaners could certainly not stand idly by if, God forbid, South Africa threatens to become another Rwanda and our ESW brothers are about to suffer a genocide. This should, however, be subject to the understanding that any Afrikaner self-determination or independent state would be of an Afrikaner nature in terms of language and culture, and that refugees would be expected to assimilate and adopt the Afrikaner culture.

The above will admittedly not appeal to all ESWs, but then they are free to savour the many delights Africa and the so-called Rainbow Nation have in store for those of an unfashionable shade of pigmentation.

Gang rape of white men in holding cells in South Africa is a type of war crime.

Gang rapes of white victims in holding cells in South Africa take place on a regular basis and are only reported when some of the victims sue the police and government.

These gang rapes by black inmates in holding cells committed on solitary white victims, are in fact war crimes, acts of aggression in a sexual manner, under conditions of coercion intended to humiliate and degrade the victim, and has nothing to do with sexual gratification.

These white men are usually arrested on spurious charges. Some are arrested for speeding, even though many deny they were in fact speeding. Some are arrested for outstanding fines. Some are arrested for being witnesses to other incidents, one was arrested for crimen injuria which he denies took place. What they all have in common is that they were put in holding cells with large crowds of hardened black criminals who then proceeded to rape them. Some of these men also reported that the black police egged the rapists on to rape them.


Black African males in South-Africa view themselves as victors of a racial war, and view these white men as members of the conquered tribe. In the Congo for example, the Bantu often rape the Pygmies, and sometimes eat the Pygmies as well. Maybe they do both to the same Pygmy, first rape him and then proceed to eat him afterwards. The Bantu claim that they gain supernatural powers by sodomising the Pygmy.

“Wimpie, a white boy who was dabbling with dagga, is put in our cell. I don’t know how old he really is, perhaps 16 or more, but he looks no older than 14, with skinny arms and short, spiky-crowned, brown hair.”

“The 28 gang give him a chocolate bar in the morning and it’s obvious what his eating of it preludes. Still, it is strange how even the minds of paedophilic rapists seem to demand some sort of mechanism by which they can excuse their crimes. They’ve given him a chocolate bar and they are going to enjoy having him repay the kindness.”

“He tries to fight, and so they hit him. His resistance stops abruptly when one grabs the back of his head and smashes his face into the steel bars ...”

“The 20 take it in turns to rape him. It goes on for more than eight hours, almost the whole night. The boy does everything he can, in his pathetic, limited range of action, to try to deter them, but he is ignored. He screams, he cries, he begs, he tries to bargain, he prays.”

“It is in the morning, though, that I am forced to see what life has coughed up before me. What’s left of Wimpie is lying in a corridor between the bunks, just in front of my bed. He is still naked, shivering in a pool of his own blood where they have discarded him. I will literally have to step over the small body to go and eat my breakfast.”

This is a description by Gayton McKenzie, a hardened gang member, of the rape of a young white teenager only known as Wimpie. Where is Wimpie today? Probably dead of AIDS, or suicide, as so many male victims of gang rape. If he is alive he might be homeless, addicted to drugs or alcohol as many who do manage to survive the experience. Their lives in ruins around them.

A diabetic man aged 52 from Primrose, Germiston is suing the minister of security for 4.3 million after being illegally arrested twice and being raped in police custody the second time. He was put into a detention cell with 30 black inmates at the Witbank police station. He described how four men carried him around naked in the cell while the rest sang and danced. The man became so emotional, the court had to wait for him to continue with his testimony. The inmates forced him to kneel over a rolled up mattress, then they proceeded to sodomise him until he later lost consciousness. The case against him was later withdrawn.

Polokwane (Pietersburg) – a local man who was sodomised repeatedly while in police custody lost his job, due to the emotional trauma, and deliver pizzas now to stay alive and keep food on the table for his family. His life is totally in ruins after the attack. Bouwer was on his way home from a friend’s house when his left tyre burst and he hit a light pole and a stoplight. He was taken by ambulance to the Polokwane hospital where he was arrested, and despite being injured in the accident taken to holding cells. He demanded his rights to a phone call but was turned down. In the cell were 25 inmates. Eight of these black men attacked Bouwer and repeatedly raped him. Some held his arms and forced his face into a pillow while they were sodomising him. He was only allowed to call his lawyer the next day when he was finally released on bail. His medical bills were in the thousands of Rands.

Vryheid – A Vryheid game rancher was being sodomised in a police cell while the inmates were singing, the Pietermaritzburg High Court was told on Wednesday. Game rancher, Etienne van Wyk, is claiming R1.2m from the Minister of Safety and Security. Van Wyk and Duvenhage were put into the Hlobane police cells after they were arrested for transporting Van Wyk's game animals without a licence. The suspects in the cells charged with the rape were all hardened criminals predisposed to violence.

A Cape Town businessman was sodomised while in the holding cells in Wynberg magistrate’s court. He later sued the state for damages. The 57 year old professional was arrested and later acquitted. He was held in a cell at Claremont police station over a weekend and later transferred to holding cells at Wynberg for his bail application. At Claremont “I was in a cell with a man who screamed at me non-stop that I was a fucking (wit vark) white pig, I was terrified. After being transferred to Wynberg the man said as soon as the doors to his cell closed he was attacked by a group of men, some armed with knives, who pulled his clothes off and sodomised him. There were about 30 people in the cell and once the door was slammed shut you couldn’t see in or out. There was nothing I could do. All these guys were holding me down. I had no chance. “Your life just basically goes for a ball of shit. I’ve always been a placid person but nowadays I just scream and shout. In 18 years, my partner and I never had a fight, but now everything has changed. The man, who is self-employed, said he couldn’t tell anyone what had happened to him in the cell, but he was haunted by the incident.

Then there are some who never leave these holding cells alive. Like Peter Wheeler a building contractor who was kicked and beaten to death while in custody in Grabouw. According to reports the police told the black criminals in the cell to “teach the white man a lesson.”

Cape Town – Deaths in police custody rose to 912 in the past year. This is according to the Independent Complaints Directorate. But the ICD says though the figure was up from 791, it could not be read as a sign of an increase in police misconduct. The directorate’s Francois Beukman says when considering the cases carried over from the previous year, the ICD had just more than 11,190 cases to deal with.

According to the Mail and Guardian of Feb 13 2008, More than 800 KZN cops were under investigation for crimes ranging from assault through to rape and murder.

Rape as a strategic weapon of war

The word itself is derived from the Latin "rapere" meaning to steal, seize or carry away.

In ancient wars and societies, male rape in times of war was considered an absolute right of the victorious soldiers to declare the totality of the enemy’s defeat and to express their own power and control.

It has been used as a weapon of war and a means of punishment in many non-Christian cultures. In the military context, there was a widespread belief that when a victorious soldier emasculated a vanquished enemy and sexually penetrated him, the victim would lose his manhood and couldn’t be a warrior or ruler again.

T.E. Lawrence or Lawrence of Arabia was, for instance, raped on the orders of the Ottoman governor by Turks and exhibited all the classic symptoms of the male rape survivor.

Workaholism, depression, anger, increased sense of vulnerability, destructive self image, emotional distancing.


Effects of rape on the male psyche

Rape Trauma Syndrome (RTS) has only been recognised and described in the past two decades. This affects all victims of sexual assault even if the rape hasn’t been completed.

Even verbal sexual aggression without physical coercion, often experienced by prisoners can leave the victim psychologically damaged.

For male survivors of physical rape, the disorder is likely to be severe and often life-threatening.

Males perceive that few other males are victims of sexual violence and that makes them very isolated.

Then on top of so many other issues, males face the unique situation in that they feel “tainted” by homosexuality.

This is one of the main reasons few men report being raped. Especially if the aggressor succeeded in getting a physiological response of involuntary ejaculation from the victim.

The victims feel that their identity as a male has been compromised or totally destroyed. This is usually the motivation of the rapist.

Suicidal impulses are so common among males who have recently experienced rape, that any victim should be presumed suicidal until a mental health professional determines this not to be the case.

Disassociation is a defense mechanism which can be employed during painful physical or psychological abuse which is impossible to escape. It is a survival technique and provide feelings of leaving one’s body, making the trauma harder to remember.

The first stage of RTS is usually characterised by the following symptoms:

Numbness, withdrawal, slurred or inaudible speech and denial or disbelief of the experience.

Some victims are visibly upset and highly emotional, sometimes extremely stressed and terrified with feelings of helplessness and vulnerability, shame, humiliation and extreme embarrassment.

Concentration may be lost, the memory even impaired for a time. This stage can last for a week.

The second stage is characterised by the same symptoms as the first week and then some new ones.

Feelings of worthlessness, self blame for the victimization and the sense of being a failure.

Disturbances in sexual functioning, personal boundaries are confused, relationships are conflicted.

Fear of going insane.

Social isolation since the victim fears he is totally alone and cut off from normal society.

Ambivalence towards females.

Resistance to intimacy.

Due to normal physiological responses like involuntary erection or ejaculation, the victim can feel he might have deserved to be assaulted.

During the third stage, the suppressed rage surfaces and may lead to violent aggressive behaviour.

Obsession with vengeance.

Belligerence to authority since it is usually in an institution, for instance a jail cell where the rape occurred and the victim was at the mercy of his aggressors due to being let down by those supposedly in authority.

Substance abuse is common.

Aggressive assertion of masculinity, including rape in some cases.

Of course the worst aspect of this is that the victims are often given a life sentence as many are infected with AIDS. This might be another reason why the rape occurs. To infect the victim deliberately with AIDS. Another war crime in this genocide of whites in South-Africa.

South Africa’s Ominous Message to Europe

The ANC had everything when it came to power: It was gifted a fully functioning nation, which had a respectable income. It was carried on the shoulders of the world’s moral endorsement, with a surplus of extraordinary international good will. It was to be the “Rainbow Nation”, the trumpet triumphal of Black success and capability. It was to be the final eclipse of “white exploitation”, and the mould for the world of the future. It was set to justify the “racial integration” of all the nations of the world, and the symbolic success of “multiculturalism”. It proclaimed a final defeat of the stratification of unique societies, and had succeeded in destroying the boundaries of societal identity expressed by culture and race.

How could that be? The ANC had no track record, no hard evidence of capability or moral commitment. Indeed, without exception, all black governed precursor societies in Africa had failed as economic and social entities

A perception constructed.

The European construct of a future South Africa as a highly desirable and successful society was a perception created entirely by Europeans. It was created by those who wanted to believe. Europeans structured a delusion, fuelled by an intrinsic belief in the ultimate triumph of Black Africa. The assumption was that “Africans are suppressed peoples” who, once released from their oppressors could only blossom into a new spring.

How did it start, this belief that Black Africa would eventually grow, prosper and blossom?

A stage set by missionaries.

This expectation has been present for centuries, as shown by the zeal and extraordinary endeavours of the European missionaries. The missionaries’ belief had been that Africa was made up of nascent societies and all that was necessary to invigorate Africans was to feed the intrinsic capabilities, to teach counting, writing and language. They believed they could inculcate into their aspiring pupils (as they perceived them) those rich virtues which the Europeans had established over centuries to be the keystones of a workable, satisfying society.

The missionaries’ qualities reflected the source of their recruitment (Christian institutions). Although the overt theme may have been to convert to Christianity underlying this, and reflected by the establishment of thousands of schools, the aim was far broader. It was spoken aloud that the missionaries wanted to “civilise savages”. Read another way, they planned to replicate their own society.

Part of their motivation was probably to assure themselves that they too would be recognised as possessing Christian virtues.

The Parenting Imperative

What were the incentives that drove the missionaries (and colonialists) to attempt to convert alien people to be become “like themselves “?

The answer requires taking a further step back, and to acknowledge one of the powerful imperatives which direct human behaviour - the parental commitment to the development of the child, that all-pervasive contribution to the societal structure of the succeeding generation.

Humans have a constant, unrelenting and at times unflinchingly need to have their offspring grow up to be “just like themselves” (or an improved version of themselves). Whatever the inadequacies of the child, and however far that child might fall short of its sought-for destination as a wholesome member of future society the optimism of the parents will prevail supremely.

There are other entrenched behaviours, of course, such as charity, compassion and “fairness”. However it is when these inherent (and distinct behavioural mechanisms) directives become muddled, one with the other, that the human “social psyche” fails its possessors.

Given this powerful and all-prevailing predetermination to parent, the strongest likelihood must be that when the Europeans were confronted with societies which they viewed as socially juvenile, those parental emotions surged to the forefront.

The Europeans therefore, and uniquely, set about the parenting those whom they regarded as inferior on the assumption and hope that if they could exercise “good parenting’” the subject societies would become “is just like theirs”.

Many will confidently interject in support of civic proselytising of “undeveloped and poor” societies, saying “That is expected” or “That is just natural” or the rhetorical “How can anyone think otherwise?” Becoming more aggressive the assertions will become “That is heartless” or “If you do not believe in this (or that) you are deviant, or a monster, or execrable”.

Those with a smug moral superiority soon discover that they have a powerful weapon to force their beliefs on others, via yet another powerful inherent directive - the need of people to evade criticism and sustain social acceptance.

The prodding and emotive phrases listed above are, however, merely word shifts, synonyms for instinctive or inherent or intrinsic or intuitive. Said another way these self-righteous people are demonstrating (perhaps without recognising it) that their behaviour is not governed by reason, but is a fixed, instinctive response. Since there is no rationale, the behaviour of the sententious cannot take account of context or probable outcomes. Because it is narrowly blinkered with much room for unintended consequences, such rigid self-assurance is therefore highly dangerous.

Necessary Delusions

For aspirations, motivation, and tenacity to succeed, a favourable outcome must be assumed. It is the imagined outcome – when contradictory information is ignored, - which sustains most human affairs. Endeavours are wrapped in delusions. Humans cannot function without these delusions, be they delusions of immortality or the certainty that an intended outcome will be successful. If these are stripped away the psycho-personality collapses.

Politicisation of Missionary Zeal

The narrow aspirations of the missionaries broadened into the 20th and 21st centuries. and paternalism strengthened. In both metaphorically and literal senses as the cry went out “bring these alien people into our homes. They need encouragement, understanding, maturing, compassion. They need to be protected from criticism and from any reference to their racial background.” It became necessary to begin suppressing those foundational human instincts of self-preservation, demarcation of domain and the fear of alien intrusion.

In what then seemed to be a self–congratulating confirmation of their delusions, Europeans began to precipitously proffer awards to those Africans who seemed to bear out their faith of their own evangelism. Robert Mugabe, for example, was awarded The Africa Prize for Leadership for the Sustainable End of Hunger in 1988 with the comment that his agricultural programs "Pointed the way not only for Zimbabwe but for the entire African continent.”

Mandela was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, and a plethora of other awards were made to Africans – often awarded so precipitously as to exsanguinate all value and status from what had previously been prestigious awards.

The Politician Supreme

Catastrophically, and simultaneous with what individuals were doing to “integrate” aliens into their own cultures by destroying sociological (and racial) barriers, European governments were gaining unparalleled, seemingly unlimited, power over their populations. From being gentlemen Civil Servants, politicians began to see themselves in a role of grandiosity. Those in governing authority began to evolve an autonomy of their own, which served their personal ambitions, and sustained their tenure. It became practice for governments to begin manipulating their society, and to progressively suppress human instincts when these interfered with their security of authority and economic status. These governments began to appease one another in what Solzhenitsyn described as “The United Governments of the World" They began to mutually gloat by displaying that they were non-racial, non-sectarian, and combined in reducing migration barriers.

The suppression of their populations increased too slowly for the people to realise how powerful was to be the strangling of their instinctive behaviours. The British government forced upon the population the cult of “non-racism” with a stronger propaganda than the Nazis would have dared to use with their cult of “non-Judaism”. To force the behaviour of their population into subservient complacency the British governments imposed a more severe and extensive legal infrastructure than the Nazis ever had. The British population was indoctrinated as to what it must think, and disciplined into what it could not say and how it must make value judgements. Expression of intuitive behaviour could be heavily and ruthlessly punished, notably where an instinctive response to the fear of an invading alien population spilled out.

When governments force onto people a behaviour which is contrary to their intuitive and highly sophisticated inherent patterns, that is tyranny. This may not be the dictionary definition, but it is a more tangible and qualitative measure of tyranny.

Delusions and deluding











Were the ambitions of the missionaries fulfilled, 15 years after the pomp and panoply of South African independence? Was the vision of the European exponents of “open house to all cultures” fulfilled? Were the arguments of those who advocated “give them a chance and they will melt into European culture seamlessly” justified? Has Black South Africa succeeded? Has Europe succeeded?

The European bitter-end protagonists of multi-culturism will say. “Yes. Some have” or “if not, this is just a matter of time, compassion, support, understanding” and advocate what is usually reserved for the mendicant or the child, further handouts of largesse. I have heard the same words spoken by parents whose wayward children are corrupt, manipulative, and extractive addicts. These failures of their children nevertheless still evoked in their parents that persisting, and instinctive delusion that all will come right eventually. They failed to see that the child was intrinsically flawed. They could not see their delusions. Instead those children not only eroded their parents’ lives but continued to gnaw destructively at a society which had not the reserves to continue to appease them indefinitely.

If we were to choose an “independent” South Africa as the design model for an ultra liberal society of the future, how should we measure the current moral strength of that nation? Surely the best we can do is to look for efficient and frugal governance and qualities of conscious care of society by those elected “democratically”? Surely we must assess the people who claim to be the most successful, the most evolved, those who believe that they are the most capable of demonstrating that black South Africa is successful. Are they?

Rather than distribute critical analysis over a range of variables, let us look at a single aspect of the behaviour of a selection of ANC politicians. An array of travel and other benefits of office are available to South African Parliamentarians. It would be expected that the availing of these implied a prudence and selectivity, with discrimination based on honesty. Have these “leaders” fulfilled the same expectations of honesty that the missionaries had hoped to inculcate into their prodigies?

How did these politicians, given the potential to cheat and exploit, reveal their anticipated morality and virtue?

The Black Power Propaganda industry

Should it be argued that politicians cannot be regarded as a representative, let us look instead at individuals who are or were expected to achieve their positions by merit and endeavour.

The National Police Commissioner should exemplify critical selection for dispassionate honesty and unswerving compliance with the law. The Western world acclaimed Jacob Selebi in this role, and as part of the mission to defer to the Black African capability, he was also appointed President of Interpol. In 1998 he received a Human Rights Award for International Service for Human Rights.

Currently Selebi is on trial, charged with many offences, including corruption and defeating the ends of Justice. In evidence, it is claimed inter alia, that he had revealed secret UK correspondence to international criminals.

As much as the delusional expectations of the Europeans about Africa’s potential were formulated and executed by Europeans, so a parallel industry of Black Propaganda contrives to capitalise and exploit the European delusions. The aim seems to have been to demonstrate that Black Africans could compete on equal terms with the European in achievement and creativity. Sadly most of the claims promoted were fabrications, calculated to deceive.

If the above examples remain unacceptable examples, let us look at a contemporary example from sport, in which the Black Africans’ capability is unquestioned. Castor Semenya won the 800 m at the world championship in Berlin in 2009. An earlier commentary aimed at putting the subsequent furore into objective context.

However ANC high-rankers, which include the infamous Winnie Mandela and Parliamentary Ministers, instead of recognising that errors, misjudgement, and deception had occurred and that it would be appropriately prudent to withdraw and apologise to the world at large, chose to go into combat against the world in an even more astonishing ranting against Europeans and their “racism”. A desperate attempt to create a delusion of African competence via Black Power propaganda.

The Message

Europe, at least in the form of political assertions, wants its successful and often overcrowded populations to dilute their creative capacity with counter-cultural immigrants from failed nations.

European, look now and carefully at Africa if you wish to know your future, should the politicians’ aims be allowed to succeed.

Hate Crimes Against Minorities in South Africa

Brandon Huntley, a "white" South African, was recently granted asylum in Canada. It is a direct result of notable genocidal conditions that are steadily on the rise in South Africa. There is a common resistance by the majority of South Africans, to Mr Huntley’s charges that he fears for his life. That he is being targeted by criminals, because he is a "white" minority. It is funny how the ANC-led South African government shouted "racist" when a "white" man from Africa applied for asylum due to persecution, and failed to see the reverse racism they were guilty of. After all, this came from the same government that called Europe "racist" when athlete Caster Semenya had to go for a gender test. It turned out she is a hermaphrodite and the race card was just a ploy to cover a lie. In South Africa the race "card" is often used as a weapon by the government in order to silence its enemies and gain support for its racial policies.

In Canada, the South African Civil Rights group, Afriforum, is going to put evidence on the table for the world to see. Evidence that is going to make the South African government very uncomfortable and dance to the tune of “Truth is the biggest enemy of any government". The hope is that the ANC led, South African government will be held accountable in an international court, for the human desperation which now exists within some of the white communities in South Africa. We contend that the South African government has been actively, concealing the truth, not only from the international community, but also from many of South Africa’s own citizens.

To date there seems to be an unwillingness from the media to advance the full extent of the current conditions in South Africa. Relying almost exclusively upon statistics as provided by the South African government, without independent verification. Victims of an under current of genocide,low scale war, deserve more than a “copy and paste” mentality from news editors. Our desire is to extent the boundaries of truth, beyond the limited horizon of a small sphere of humanitarian efforts.

A part of the world’s confusion is understandable. Many “rich white” foreigners living in South Africa’s highly secured neighbourhoods, speak with wonderment about the virtues of South Africa. They have no historical or family ties to the country, that binds them to heinous atrocities that are being committed against "white" minorities with a wide network of family. They do not have to share in the fear of racial discontent as directed at "white" minorities, specifically Afrikaners (Descendants of Mostly Dutch, French, German, British and smaller numbers from other European countries) whose heritage ties them to South Africa’s past. Afrikaners only have South African passports and thus "white" do not have European passports which "ties" them solidly to African soil. Foreigners to South Africa do not get to see the day to day life, that minorities in South Africa have to deal with. Even those of us forced to live outside our countries borders, are only a phone call away from the shared, feared reality of a racially fueled genocide. The fear is real as portrayed by the mass exodus of qualified and skilled citizens, of whom the majority is white.

Concerned people from all walks of life, around the world have unified for the sole purpose of disseminating the truth. If these charges are a vilification of the truth, then truth shall prevail on the occasion of its justification. Thus we seek the truth to be told in an international court of law, and that the world be told the truth. That apartheid is still very much alive in a nation where racial tension is still propagated by the government, and tolerated by its media. People from all cultures, races and creed should not suffer the discontent that racism breeds, or fear those that use '"racism" as a "weapon of silence". The world is slowly starting to wake up to racial double standards. Where certain rules apply to one person, yet different rules to another. Brandon Huntley is that proof.

For minorities, where ever they find themselves in the world, have no say in their destiny as voted by a majority. They are either accepted as part of a society or have to share in the world’s charity. That is the price of being the minority, you are at the mercy of the perception of right and wrong as perceived by the majority.That is one of the reasons why Afrikaners became part of a larger family of minorities by joining the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO). Equality is only a perception shared by the majority, and hoped for by minorities. South African minorities are at the mercy of equality as perpetrated on them by criminals. We are at the mercy of racial equality as viewed by people who participate in crime. Yet we do not have the voting power to end acts of crime against all citizens of South Africa. The majority are the ones who tolerate crime, therefore we must judge the racial tolerance of criminals. At night we can only pray that we would not be murdered by somebody with a vindictive racial attitude. We do not get to vote on the attitude towards crime, yet we are told that it is not geared towards us. We have to take the word of the majority, that criminals do not use racial bias. In South Africa, racists are not criminals, this is what the statics will make us believe.

This is not a question of us against them, but about what is wrong, and that, is a government forcing its “denial of truth agenda” on the world. An agenda that now heightens racial discord by driving a wedge between people. That wedge is destroying the “Mandela dream”. In a nation of people that seeks peace, we are being polarised by government efforts. The ANC proffer a policy that generally states “never again will one benefit at the expense of another”, in its own Freedom Charter. Whilst still at the same time practicing policies like Affirmative Action and Black Economic Empowerment, to virtually eliminate whites from participation in the work force. Does the government fear our commitment to building the future of South Africa? Are we always to be treated that we do not belong, therefore we are not allowed to equally participate? How long before our own people will accept us, and not reject us? Maybe then the killing of innocent people will stop.

If we are to be truly living in a free society, the government should feel obligated to protect all its citizens against violent crime. In order for us to build a better society, we need to be living in one first. There is no justification for crime, not even against minorities. If there is racial discord, are the leaders not there to discredit its legitimacy, are they not there to raise or lower our fears?

Yet we are being labelled as being “racist” because we are raising our fears, as we see our government use racial slurs, to raise political capital. The world should also be the judge of the legitimacy of our fears. History is littered with examples of people’s fears that were ignored. If our fears are just an attempt to diminish the South African government, then the truth should be told. They have already diminished their own image in the U.N. when it comes to voting on human rights issues, as a member of the Human Rights Council.

The media seems to believe that our allegations are all fabricated lies, so what harm would come of independent eyes to discern for themselves? If all we are trying to do is to create a larger schism between races, will those facts not also be revealed? We believe and trust that the truth shall set us free, rather than apart. These crimes have been continuing since 1994 and is ever on the increase, to such worrying statistics that Genocide Watch is very concerned to what is currently happening.

Here are three examples of hate crimes in the white community that were fueled by black on white racism, yet gone unnoticed, like many more examples Afriforum will give as evidence.

David Jones, of the Daily Mail describes the brutal assault of a white woman, Mrs. Ame Brown, in her Johannesburg home, in the absence of her husband, who was working a night shift. Mrs. Brown's two young sons were bound at the wrists and forced at gunpoint to watch the four-strong black gang which had broken into their flat as their mother was violated in turn by each of the gang members. Says Jones: "As the first man made way for the second, he spat out the hate-filled words Ame, an Afrikaner, will never forget: "For years you Boers always took from us. Now we're taking from you." In fact, Ame Brown worked as a care assistant looking after mainly black children at a Johannesburg home for youngsters. But her work on behalf of such an underprivileged, have-not section of the population obviously cut no ice with her assailants. Her race was all that mattered as far as they were concerned.

Lambert Theron, 20, Kempton Park Wimpy manager - CCTV filmed this young Afrikaner’s last moments: being hacked to death in a revenge-murder by two black co-workers – who accused him of ‘lying like all white men do’.

One of the most shocking recent examples of two anti-white racist hate-crimes involved the April 2009 torture-murders of Alice Lotter, 77, and her daughter Helen, 57, which caused a wave of abhorrence amongst the entire white community because of its incredible cruelty. The women, both frail, were tortured to death at their farm in Allenridge in the Free State on April 1, 2009. According to forensic evidence, the Lotter mother and daughter died excruciatingly painful deaths: First tortured by being stabbed with broken glass bottles into their vaginas; one of the women also had her breasts cut off while she was still alive – and then both women’s blood, police forensic experts found, had been used to paint the ANC’s anti-Afrikaner hate slogan ‘Kill the Boer Kill the Farmer’ on the walls of their homestead.

The list of crimes against "white" minorities, victims of murder and torture goes on.

Take a moment and ask yourself the question: What if these minorities were from a different race, in another part of the world? Would there be an international outcry against these heinous crimes, if they were not "white"? If the roles were reversed the world would trounce on the opportunity to vilify "whites", acting in such a way against "black" minorities. Are we to believe that asylum seekers should also be racially profiled? In a truly democratic society the outcry that a member of minority has been brutalized like this, should cause a reaction from their government. A full scale investigation into the causes and conditions, or at the very least a denouncement from the government, should be launched. We should learn from the past that ignoring the pleas from minorities, can have even full scale impact on the rest of the world. Less we forget the lessons from our wars of the past. We can ill afford another devastating war on the face of the planet, seeing that we are already losing the battle on global climate change and the population growth is about to explode. The last world war was started by the world ignoring the plight of minorities, as they felt that the abuse was justified.

On this point the South African government remains painfully misdirected, choosing to rouse its supporters into hatred against whites. The South African government knows if they stop using the racial issue, if "whites" become South Africans, rather than ‘Racist White’ South Africans, it would become increasingly more difficult to enforce racial bias, hypocritical policies and even lose support in the process. Is equality not the pursuit of all people?

As things are becoming more tense in South Africa, we see right wing extremists rise up from the ashes, for instance the AWB party of Eugene Tereblanche. Though these group represent a very small minority of "whites" or Afrikaners, what is apparent and worrying, is that more "whites" will feel obliged to sympathise as hate crimes against them is on the increase.

Brandon Huntley might lose his case, but that is not the real issue. The question is whether the truth will be exposed, will all be fully revealed? If the South African government’s statistics and propaganda are accepted as "fact", if the full spectrum of truth is discarded or ignored. The world will lose another opportunity to advance the cause of oppressed people - even oppressed white men like Brandon Huntley. If the world neglects to seek the truth, the South African government will not suddenly find its moral centre, rather, it will be assured that its efforts to beguile are more potent than truth. Even to those of us that believed they would bring peace and equality.
That dream is still to be achieved.

Robert Mugabe, the horribly selfish and deceitful African dictator, the black racist who has raped Rhodesia and left it as Zimbabwe ruins, hardens his heart against honest questions Christiane Amanpour dared to ask.

White Rhodesians, productive white Zimbabweans, are being hounded off their God-given land by racist black dogs - land that they've diligently worked and effectively managed to the blessing of every Zimbabwean - by both the military and thugs who thrive in the climate of hate against people of white color, especially farmers.

These barbarous acts of injustice are aided and abetted by Mugabe's racist policy of "land reform." It's the Black African version of the same socialist demand to "spread the wealth around" - taking from those who produce and giving it to those who don't - failing to grasp that killing the goose that lays the golden eggs ruins it for everybody. Taking over a farm (often by brutal means), seizing farm equipment, and lacking the knowledge or will to work it leaves the land barren and the country destitute. Such is Zimbabwe under Mugabe!

Dictator Mugabe, drunk on the dregs of socialist poison, slurs that white farmers have a "debt," that "they occupied the land illegally. They seized the land from our people." When Christiane Amanpour attempts to sober him up with facts, noting some "80 percent of that land was acquired after you took office, some of the farmland, and with the very certificates that mean government approval. Why are these people being hounded out of the country? Why are they being... They're being hounded off their land," Mugabe denies it's their land, even though his corrupt government went through the charade of certificates, and then attempts to sanction such ethnic cleansing by exposing the British betrayed their white brethren during Lancaster House discussions: "They knew we had this program of land acquisition and land reform." Ian Smith's book, The Great Betrayal, was appropriately titled.

Black African Dictator Mugabe brands the productive white farmers (whom all Zimbabweans owe a debt) as: "Citizens by colonization, seizing land from the original people, indigenous people of the country." Sounds like the various inter-tribal African conflicts, the different historic tribal wars, the Mfecane, except the superior tribes of white color raised everybody's standard of living, all things considered.

Mugabe professes to be a Christian, but he clearly isn't a Bible-believer. Mugabe goes against the Word and Will of God whose prophets identify Israel in these last days. The birthmarks of fulfilled biblical prophecies include, as the Jerusalem-based Brit Am Israel organization teaches:
According to the Bible ten out of the twelve tribes of Israel split away (1 Kings 12:19), formed their own kingdom of "Israel" (1 Kings 12:20) and were exiled by the Assyrians (2 Kings 17:18). They forget their identity (Hosea 1:9, 7:8; Isaiah 49:21) and became the Lost Ten Tribes. In the future they will re-unite with the Jews (Ezekiel 37; Isaiah 11:13; Jeremiah 3:18) of "Judah", but until then they have a role of their own to fulfill. They were destined to be situated at the continental extremities of the earth such as North America, the British Isles, Scandinavia, the Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa (Deuteronomy 33:13; Isaiah 24:16, 26:15, 41:8-9, 49:6), to be the richest (Genesis 27:28, 49:25; Deuteronomy 33:13-16; Hosea 2:8), and most powerful (Numbers 24:8-7; Micah 5:7-9) nations on earth and to control major international strategic bases (Genesis 22:16-17, 24:60). All of these points together with numerous others show that descendants of the Lost Ten Tribes can only be found amongst Western Nations, especially the English-speaking ones.

We have an old saying here in America, "Don't complain about farmers with your mouth full." Africa owes white farmers a debt. Mugabe can rail against colonialism but if it weren't for people of white color in Africa, the pioneers and their descendants, all of Africa would still be living in the Stone Age!

Our Great Creator God decreed parts of Africa for white Israelites and it is His good earth, His land to give - not shifting and warring black populations, so-called "indigenous peoples."

Manifest Destiny rings true for the United States and Manifest Destiny rings true for Africa; for Israel in the Isles and the Jewish homeland, even if politically correct cultists are tone deaf to this plain truth.

In the popular mind decadence is the state into which the once omnipotent Roman Empire fell after centuries of dominating the Ancient World. The Roman Republic was founded in 509 BC, it flourished for centuries, dominating the Mediterranean, reached the status of Empire in 27 BC after conquest of other lands, and split into the Western and Byzantine Roman Empires in the Fourth century. The Western Empire finally became decadent and went into decline in the sixth century. The Byzantine Empire survived its Western counterpart by almost a thousand years, falling only to the Ottoman Turks in 1453.

The Roman Empire had dramatic effects on subsequent human history. Christianity became a dominant religion after the Emperor Theodosius I suppressed paganism and established the Creed of the Council of Nicaea in 325 as the norm for Christians. Roman Law, Christianity, and the methods of Roman civil engineering are still with us. Roman military precision became the standard for historical European and American armies marching in neat lines on parade, and this has now spread to armies all over the earth. Perhaps even the notions of military ranks and hierarchy can be traced back to the Romans, or has been passed to us from the Greeks by means of the Roman Empire.

Given all this, it must have been a surprising idea, at the time, that an Empire as almighty as the Roman Empire, and which lasted as long, could go into fatal decline and eventually disappear. "The decline and fall of the Roman Empire" is a much researched topic, and Gibbon wrote a six-volume work by that name. It is generally acknowledged that the fall of the Western Roman Empire, after the invasions of Barbarians from northern Europe, had dramatic consequences for Western Europe - the period of artistic, economic, civil and engineering decline resulted in the Dark Ages or Medieval Times, and this period would take hold of Western Europe for a millennium. In this time Europeans suffered from a lack of resources, superstition, short life spans, disease and poverty. It was only the advent of the Renaissance that finally brought relief to Western Europe, and the subsequent history showed that Western Europe climbed out of the Medieval period to become a potent part of the world and the world economy, dominating other areas, and forming Empires which would last for 200 years or more.

In the popular mind the decadence of the Roman Empire conjures up images of a high society that fell into dysfunction. Paintings and other depictions of decadence invariably focus on scenes of gluttony and depraved sexual behaviour, orgies and alcohol abuse. For example, the painting Romans of the Decadence by Thomas Couture portrays an orgy in full swing while shocked philosophers are witnessing scenes of gluttony and bare breasts.

There is a recent sense that the modern West has become decadent in the same manner as Rome, and charges of decadence may appear in the Western press. On the cover of a recent issue of the British magazine The Spectator a headline states that "[Muslims] are right about us", and the magazine expands on this in an article reporting that some British members of parliament agree with the apparent charge by Muslims that British society, and by extension the West, is decadent (and in this sense, sexually and morally so). In these interpretations of decadence it is meant that individuals are decadent or that individuals exhibit decadence in their ethical or moral behaviour and choices. Thus, decadence is imagined to be a state of individuals, rather than a state of a society at large.

This view is mostly wrong. The sexual depravity and gluttony we take for decadence are in fact not what decadence is. Rather, decadence is the state of a society in decline. Its citizens' behaviour is a symptom of decadence rather than decadence itself. The Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary defines decadence to be "a period of decline" of a society, and it cross-references decadence to "decay", "decline" or "corruption", and suggests "deterioration" as a possible synonym. In the Bosman, Van der Merwe, and Hiemstra Tweetalige woordeboek, decadence is translated into Afrikaans as "onder andere as verval, agteruitgang [van 'n samelewing]".

The Encyclopedia Britannica states that decadence "is a period of decline or deterioration of art or literature that follows an era of great achievement". This requires first that a society becomes "great" before it can be decadent. In his book Decadent Societies (North Point Press, San Francisco, 1983), Robert M. Adams examines as examples of decadent societies: the Eastern and Western Roman empires, the ancien regime of 18th century France, the Romanovs of pre-Communist Russia, and the British Empire. He further examines the current American Empire for decadence, and also comments on the role of weak leadership in societies at risk of decadence.

Sober thought would suggest that decadence is the failure of a ruling class that would not, or cannot, identify the risks and dangers facing their society. It is a shortcoming in the intellectual classes in a society, and not of its ordinary citizens. Decadence could come about when intellectual or ruling classes fall out of love and turn their backs on the citizens of the society which produced them. Such an intellectual or ruling class will fail to provide their citizens with a common purpose or a national myth. The result is a loss of faith and confidence of the citizens in their rulers and myths, and they escape in the pursuit of nihilistic pleasure, or they may dissociate from their community to seek their fortunes elsewhere. The symptoms of decadence, including corrupt behaviour, disreputable attitudes, and the destruction of a common purpose that binds a society together, flows from the decadence of the intellectual classes, and not from the citizens themselves. Ordinary members of a decadent society instinctively understand that they have been forsaken by their elite, and this challenges their loyalty and undermines their ethics and morality.

It is with all this in mind that one should approach contemporary Afrikaner society. This topic is far too large for an essay such as this one, and I will necessarily restrict my comments to a few observations. There is a sense in some circles that Afrikaners have lost their way. At least one Afrikaner author, Dan Roodt, has lamented the decadence of Afrikaners in several of his essays. For example, as long ago as 14 December 2003, he commented in his essay Ons Waardekrisis that "koerante vol skandale [is] oor die gedrag van Afrikaners", that "Afrikaners vandag nie meer weet wat die verskil tussen reg en verkeerd is nie", en that Afrikaners "is besig om af te sak na die laagste gemene deler toe, en [maak] die gebruike van die bloedige en amorele Suid-Afrika ons eie ...". He pleads for new [Afrikaner] leaderskip to stem this decadence and to catalize an Afrikaner renewal. For his efforts he was eventually fired as a columnist at Rapport, a main-stream Afrikaner Sunday paper. Talk of an Afrikaner renewal, or of an Afrikaner ethnic cohesiveness, or of the dangers of the ANC's agenda, proved too strong for the editors of Rapport. Afrikaner intellectuals, in the form of opinion makers at a newspaper, apparently quell such talk, as it might upset the ANC driven contemporary South African ethos. Let us therefore rather have peace than having ethnic Afrikaners.

It is without question the case that Afrikaners face severe challenges in the ANC's South Africa. Individually they are under assault by ANC policies such as Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) and Affirmative Action (AA). These policies are not mildly applied as in other Western countries, but are draconian in their scope, and are based on the idea of a wealth transfer from white to black, rather than the generation of new wealth to empower black South Africans which were sidelined by apartheid. Afrikaners further face the complete undermining of their institutions, from primary and secondary schools, universities and businesses (such as the defunct Volkskas, a bank built from the pennies of savings that small and impoveriched Afrikaner kids brought to school in the 1920's and 30's). Afrikaner farmers face land reform and invasion, sometimes apparently driven by the agendas of foreign NGO's or by ANC warlords, and also suffer discriminatory practices at the Land Bank and other government-related institutions which normally have a mandate for assisting farmers.

These issues would not have been so serious were it not for the fact that some of the Afrikaner elite either defend the application of these policies, or may even be actively involved in their application. Prominent Afrikaner businessman are known to implement BEE and AA with gusto, doing great harm to the economic and social well-being of Afrikaners in mid- and lower-level positions, and stories of Afrikaners being forced to train their own replacements before they are retrenched can easily be found. Young Afrikaners may find themselves stranded with no access to scholarships or entry-level positions. BEE transactions have created a new superclass of rich blacks, at the cost of thousands of Afrikaners who have invested their savings in the stock market, only to see it squandered on such transactions, apparently driven simply by a desire to please the ANC, and with at best a questionable return in the long run. University presidents of previously Afrikaans-medium universities have apparently either not opposed the introduction of English instruction, or have actively colluded with the ANC government to undermine the Afrikaans character of their institutions. In other words, the Afrikaner elite has apparently decided against Afrikaners, or they are unable to decide what is in fact in the best long-term interest of Afrikaners.

There was at some point in the past a well-defined Afrikaner community, with an ethos and culture curiously its own. This community existed well before the Anglo-Boer War, and it was defined by its common ethnicity and by a common purpose. Its leadership did make serious errors, but it was neither decadent nor corrupt, and Afrikaners survived many crises, including war and subsequent poverty, and fought tenaciously for existence against their historical enemies, the English and the Zulu. In 1910 this community was made part of South Africa, and while it would apparently grew in influence and size for another 50 years, it would eventually be undermined by demographics, weak leadership, and now apparently finally by creolization, emigration, and a new decadent ruling class in the post-apartheid years.

Decadence, as I argued above, is a failure of the intellectual class; an inability or a refusal to recognize the evident challenges and truths facing an ethnic group. Afrikaner artists and intellectuals may begin to escape their decadence by acknowledging same basic facts. Perhaps the most important is the fact that the ANC is intensely anti-Afrikaans. Accepting this will not achieve much, but it would at least be intellectually honest, and as such will set a better foundation for a response. By "anti-Afrikaans" I do not mean to anthropomorphize the ANC. The ANC is a collection of individuals, and I mean that in their collective decision-making they act in a manner which is detrimental to Afrikaners - a large fraction of the ANC leadership and policy makers have a knee-jerk anti-Afrikaner response on almost all issues.

Examples of the confusion of Afrikaner intellectuals are easily found. A simple survey of recent publications provides the following examples: In a 17 August 2005 editorial Die Burger states that it is "die ANC vandeesweek 'n spesiale verklaring uitgereik het waarin Afrikaans gelukgewens word met sy 130 jaar van bestaan …". That the ANC is using statements such as these in a cynical attempt to pacify Afrikaners on the language issue has apparently not quite registered with the editors of Die Burger. Nelson Mandela is almost universally revered by Afrikaner commentators. It is indeed true that his personal intervention and charisma avoided a civil war in South Africa, but it is also a fact that the ANC, under his leadership, negotiated a new South African constitution which apparently implies the extinction of Afrikaners and the formation of a "New South African". An honest and frank evaluation would indicate that at best, Nelson Mandela should be regarded with mixed feelings by Afrikaners. Lastly, leaders of the Afrikaner community realize that many skilled Afrikaners are locked out by BEE and AA from the economy, and they have now offered to compile a register of such people. This is a very lame reaction. In a normal situation, the leaders of an ethnic group would have expressed outrage at the discrimination, but then, these are decadent and not normal times.

The prize-winning journalist Max Du Preez has spent a lifetime documenting and recording the experiences of victims of apartheid laws. He has founded an anti-apartheid newspaper, was a researcher and writer for the Apartheid Museum, was an anchor at the new ANC-controlled SABC, and he has risked his life not once as a journalist reporting on police death squads, on riots in Soweto, and on the general decadence of the apartheid regime's senior ministers. As an Afrikaner, one would have expected Du Preez to file reports on the ANC's instinctive and deep-seated anti-Afrikaner streak. But it is difficult to find such sentiments in his contributions. In his writings there are but scant mentioning of the plague of murders on Afrikaner farmers since 1994, apparently nothing on the new emergent underclass of poor Afrikaners, and he evidently sees little or no problem with the destruction of Afrikaner institutions by the ANC ruling class.

Du Preez is not alone in this; his choice of issues and attitudes are universally common in Afrikaner opinion makers all over South Africa, including newspaper editors and even political figures. It appears that the story of Afrikaners in post-1994 South Africa is not a story worth filing, and that even Afrikaner opinion makers cannot look with compassion on the sufferance and failings of their own ethnic group. The post-1994 Afrikaner experience is a rich source of captivating stories. Stories of crime and discrimination abound. One captivating story involves a young farmer who survived an attack at the hands of two black assailants by playing dead after being shot three times. A fluent speaker of Sotho, he addressed his assailants in Sotho while they were beating him. They responded by ordering him to speak Afrikaans during his beating. This, unfortunately, is also the Afrikaner experience since 1994, unrecorded and ignored by the Afrikaner elite. There is also a tendency in the mainstream Afrikaans press to condemn Afrikaners who dare speak out against crime or discrimination against Afrikaners. The destruction of Afrikaner institutions and the subsequent confidence crisis among Afrikaners is a potent political story that should be recorded and told.

Average Afrikaners are not blind to all of this. They understand instinctively that elite Afrikaners such as Du Preez have an apparent aversion to them, and that they cannot expect anyone to act in their interest in response to pressures from the ANC. When Du Preez laments in a recent column the large-scale emigration of tens of thousands of Afrikaners from South Africa in the last couple of years, he argues that this and other factors may imply the eventual extinction of Afrikaners. Crime and affirmative action are given as reasons for emigration.

Du Preez and many other prominent Afrikaner commentators ostensibly fail to understand the underlying motive for emigration. Emigration is in particular due to the failure of Afrikaner intellectuals to provide Afrikaners with a vision for the future. That is, a failure to provide a set of arguments, myths and institutions that constitute a model for the continued existence of Afrikaners in South Africa. Afrikaners are acutely aware that the new order in South Africa may phase out Afrikaner culture and the Afrikaans language from both the private and public sectors through transformation and integration. Afrikaners have no province or haven like Québec for Francophone Canadians. The common man is no fool, and he knows that in other societies organized as in post-1994 South Africa minority cultures and languages have failed to thrive, and have ultimately become extinct. Afrikaans will not escape this fate; as it is forced out of South African institutions, so it will disappear from the kitchens of that country as well.

This leaves Afrikaners with an impossible choice: stay in South Africa and anglicize, or emigrate to Australia, and anglicize. In neither country is there an Afrikaner future. This is not even a fair choice. In Australia there is little crime and no affirmative action imposed on Afrikaners. Afrikaners emigrated in the 1830's from the Cape Colony during the Great Trek to escape British domination. Perhaps the current large-scale migration is the Last Trek which will close the book on centuries of Afrikaners, and in a thousand years all of Afrikaner experience will have been reduced to a footnote.

While Du Preez does lament in his recent essay Changing Ideas of Afrikaner/White Identity (published on the LitNet website) the fact that Afrikaners are not accepted as African by the new Black elite, he appears generally to be incapable of opposing the ANC rulers' agenda. A self-styled radical who fought against apartheid, Du Preez still appears to be psychologically incapable of understanding that his old comrades are now his enemies, bent on destroying the institutions and cohesion of his ethnic group (or perhaps he does not believe that Afrikaners should exhibit ethnic cohesion, unlike Jews or Scots, for example). As a self-styled radical, he apparently cannot stand radicalism when he encounters it in someone like Dan Roodt. Instead, his behaviour towards Roodt is reminiscent of the behaviour of apartheid ministers to Du Preez, calling him names and attempting to push him to the fringes of mainstream thought by means of boycotts and explicit name-calling on main-stream websites.

The obsession of Max du Preez, Koos Kombuis, and other Afrikaner opinion-makers with Dan Roodt is fascinating. Roodt seems to be driving the debate, since they are constantly reacting to his ideas and statements. Whatever opinion one has about Roodt, it is obvious that he has at the very least provided an intellectual and radical alternative to the lame sentiments coming out of Afrikaans newspapers and from Afrikaner intellectuals since 1994. In this respect he has done Afrikaners a tremendous favour.

The longer-term future of South Africa remains unsure. It may be the case that we are witnessing the birth of a New South African, an Anglophone creature who will be a dominant regional and global force. On the other hand, South Africa may fail in the same way that Zimbabwe has failed. In the first instance Afrikaners will be assimilated and will disappear, and in the second case Afrikaners will go under with South Africa. In both cases they will be on the losing side of history. But this story must still be written.
