Didn't the Irish already reject the Beast?

But no pro-European can be happy about a Brussels elite that advances by stealth, that swats aside dissent, that resents the electorate, that ignores referendums when they go the “wrong” way.

Why would the Irish chose to help create a Frankenstein monster that would betray them? Does history teach we can trust people in power who have no checks and balances? Didn't the Irish already reject the Beast? What real or imagined crisis will occur to coerce the Irish and Europeans to surrender their sovereignty to the elitists in Brussels (who answer to Berlin and Rome)?
